Getting Healthy for the New Year

It is a new year and you might sitting down to think about your goals for 2016. If getting healthy is on your list, this year does not have to be like the years past. This year can be YOUR year to kick some bootay and not just succeed at getting healthy but get in the best shape of your LIFE!!! The top resolution every year is fitness and by the end of January more than half have already given up. Why is this???

I personally think people give up so quickly because they do not know where to begin or have the right tools. They don't have the support or daily motivation to help them push through the tough days and pick them up when they had a bad day of eating. So many Americans try to 'diet' and let's be really honest with ourselves, diets don't work. Diets don't work because it is not part of your lifestyle, you will for the rest of your life count calories or points. For me that is no way to live!!

To truly be successful at achieving your resolutions for a healthier 2016, you need to learn a healthier way of living. This includes the right kinds of foods to fuel body, correct portion amounts of foods, daily workouts, a support system, and learning how to incorporate this into your life so it is a lifestyle and not a quick fix! I am going to share with you how you can do this!!

1) Find a program that works for you. if you say you will get gym membership but know deep down you won't go then this isn't a good option. Figure out what you enjoy during for workouts and find something that fit these needs. There is Beachbody program for every person out there!! If you like weights there is 21 day fix, 21 fix extreme, and the new program which I am super excited about Hammer and Chisel!! If you like pilates and yoga type workouts there is PiYo which is a combination of both and is low impact! If you like cardio and no weights, insanity max 30 high intensity workouts using your bodyweight!! The list goes on and on...but when you find something you like to do, at home, and only 30 minutes you are more likely to stay committed!!

2) Support system. Join a group of individuals who are pushing for the same goals as you and going through the same program. These support groups will help give you the extra push when you have a bad day, daily motivation to stay on track, workout, and when you want to give up. Support is crucial piece to sticking with a fitness program or goal. If you exercise with individuals with share the same goals with you it makes it fun and more enjoyable!! Everyday you are held accountable and want to succeed to share your success!! With every Beachbody program, you can join support groups for FREE!! I run 2 groups monthly to help individuals learn how to get started, stay committed, motivated, learn healthy recipes/proper nutrition, and have FUN while doing it!! The support from other women is so inspiring!!

3) Time/Putting yourself first. YOU ARE WORTH IT!! Set time aside for yourself everyday to get your workout in. With a 30 minute a day program, you can say your too busy, we are all busy!! This is 2% of your day, you deserve this time to feel good about yourself and take care of your body!! Treat working out like your job, schedule it in everyday and no matter what get your workout in!! You have to take care of yourself first to be able to take care of others!! So remember you are important and worth this time!!

4) Routine. Figure out a time that will work best for you to workout. Schedule this in everyday and follow it. For me, waking up before the little one is best so I get it done, my mind can't tell me no, and I feel great for the rest of the day!! Figure when it is best for you and stick with it for 30 days and just see how amazing you feel!!

5) Tools. The right program, nutrition plan, support, and routine are vital to being successful and staying committed to your goals!

6) Tracking your progress. The scale is not the most accurate way to measure and I tell every person I work this!! Taking good accurate measurements and before-after pictures is the tell all!! I love these 2 ways more than scale because they tell progress more than the scale!! Also, how you feel and how your clothes fit is another way to track your progress! Give your measurements/pictures to someone you trust and do a weekly check-in with them to track. I absolutely love this part of being a fitness coach!! In the support groups I help you keep track of progress and keep pushing every single day for those results!!

Pictures tell all!
If getting healthy and fit is a goal for your 2016, let's chat!!! Together we can achieve your goals and so much more!! My next health and fitness accountability group opens up January 4th, and I want YOU in it with me!! Drop the excuses and start right NOW!! The only thing holding you back from your before and after picture is you, you can and will be the next AMAZING transformation if you commit!!

Fill out the application below or email me to get more information, chat, or get started!! I can't wait to ROCK 2016 and I want you with me!!

Creamy Chicken Salad

A classic bridal/baby shower, birthday party, or family gathering food is chicken salad. I have not eaten it in a while because of the ingredients that are put into it. When I got the Fixate cookbook and saw this recipe, I knew I had to try it I made this for dinner one night, it was husband and 1 year old approved! I even had some extras for the next days lunch, which is always a win for me!

Ingredients:

Directions:
- Cook chicken on stove top and let it cool in fridge for 15-20 minutes
- I used a ninja chopper for my green onion and almond
-After chicken is cool, mix together all the ingredients in a large bowl
Combined mixture
Lettuce wraps, yum!!
Serve with lettuce wraps, whole grain wraps, or my husbands favorite Hawaiian rolls! Enjoy and share at your upcoming party!

Leg Burner

I love adding in new exercises to my routine and this is one of my favorite leg exercises to add in! I usually do my 30 minute workout for the day and add this exercise in 2-3 times per week. If you want to feel a great leg burn try out this out.

There are 5 exercises, each move last 20 seconds. Rest 10 seconds in between each move, repeat the cycle 3 times total. I use a timer to help me keep track of the 20 seconds on, 10 second rest.

1) 180 squat
2) alternating back lunge with leg kick
3) low jacks
4) curtsy lunge with knee tuck
5) pulse squat jumps

If you want to really challenge yourself, do this exercise 3 times per week. On Monday do the set 3 times, Wednesday do the set 5 times, and Friday do the set 7 times!

Finding the Time to Excercise

As a full-time working mom and wife it was hard to find time to get a shower in let alone get to the gym to workout. In the beginning I would go to the gym after work and feel guilty the whole time I was there. I felt guilty because I was spending more time away from my baby and husband. I felt like I had a million things to get done and the last thing I should be doing is going to the gym. I never in a million years thought I would be doing at-home workouts and actually getting results.

We all live crazy busy lives and taking the time to focus on ourselves and our health always seems to be the last thing we think about. When in reality this should be one of our top priorities, if we do not take care of ourselves, then we won't be around to enjoy our families and the things we love! SO today I want to share some tips that have helped me transform my life to live a healthier lifestyle!

Tips:

1) First things first: Get your workout in before the day starts. I know for me if I do not do my workout right away in the morning, I use excuse after excuse as to why I can't do my workout. I wake up around 445 am to start my workout by 5 am. You might be thinking "you are crazy!" Trust me I know when I first started this I thought this was the craziest thing ever. But getting it done before my day starts allows me time to focus on just me for that 30 minutes, prepare for the day ahead, and I follow my meal plan better because I have worked out and don't want to ruin my day!

2) Have a plan: Schedule your workouts in your phone or planner. Make working out a non-negotiable each day. Think of this as an important meeting with your boss or a date, once you have it set you can't cancel! Lay out your clothes the night before, in doing this it helps me just wake up and get dressed, no thinking about it. Have your workout planned before waking up. I always put the DVD in the player so all I have to do is press play!

3) Include your kids: If early morning is absolutely not an option for you, include your family. Children will learn from your good example and they will want to join in on the fun! It is a great way to get your kids some physical activity and a great bonding activity. They will see mommy as a strong, dedicated, and healthy woman! Have equipment that is kid friendly so they can participate bosu balls, resistance bands, foam rollers.

4) Build a Support Crew: Juggling all of life's responsibilities can be overwhelming and we often feel alone. Trust me on this one, you are not! Find a workout buddy or someone who is going through the same program as you. This will help keep you motivated and accountable. Sharing your struggles and successes with others help you grow and continue on your journey! I offer online health and fitness groups for women that help with meal planning, motivation, support, and we all are going through the same program!

Beachbody Event surrounded by 100's of other women and men!

5) Do your best: Life happens and some day are better than others. We should not get down on ourselves for the days where we simply can not fit a full workout in. Even if you only have 5-10 minutes, do some physical activity. If you have to break workout into sessions 10 minutes here, 5 minutes there, don't worry about it. All that matters is that you completed the workout! It will help your mood and you will feel better that you some workout in! DO NOT compare yourself to others. I was guilty of this for a long time but honestly we are all on our own journey. "Comparison is the thief of joy" -Theodore Roosevelt
Enjoy every day and simply do your best!

Break up with perfection and just be YOU

6) Be a weekend warrior: If you are anything like me I used to use the weekend as a free for all. No workouts and eating whatever I want. Then Monday would come back around and there I was starting all over again. Commit to working out on the weekends. This can be anything! If you are going to the park walk around, play on the equipment just be active. Work out before you head out for the day so you have it done and you can enjoy the rest of the day! By staying committed on the weekend you will stick to your meal plan and see results a lot faster than if you would skip 2 days and start all over!

7) Give it your all: At the end of the day, spending more time with my family is a top priority. Working, blogging, and everything else means less time with my baby and husband. So my mantra has been "Give it your all." If I am going to workout or do something where I am not spending time with my family, I better be giving it 100%.

My reason I push myself every single day...this boy!
Fitting a workout routine into a busy schedule is hard. But, with some planning it is totally doable! Make your well-being a priority and others around you will follow! I do not allow myself to think of my health as second anymore. If I am happy, healthy, and energized everyone around me receives the benefits of this!

In finding the time to workout 30 minute at-home workouts were my live saver!! I have used 21 day fix, 21 day fix extreme, insanity max:30 and I am getting ready to start a new journey with CIZE!! If you are interested in joining my next online health and fitness group email me or fill out the application below!

3 Day Refesh

I have been wanting to do the 3 day refresh through Beachbody for a long time but I kept telling myself not right now it is not a good time and making every other excuse possible. I had been snacking A LOT and since memorial day have not been eating the best. I finally said enough was enough...I need to break from these bad habits and it is time to get back on track. I had gained back only 1 pound but I could tell in my stomach and the way my clothes were fitting I was bloated and just tired all the time from putting junk into my body.

I started a 3 day refresh challenge group on Monday June 8th and started my refresh on Thursday of the week. I wanted other women to join me in this 3 days because I knew I would need support, motivation, and somewhere to check in when I was wanting to stop. I spent the first few days preparing my menu, starting to slowly withdraw from caffeine, and grocery shopping for my fruits and veggies!
Sample Meal Plan
I was nervous and worried I would be hungry all the time...the honest truth there was never a time I was hungry during the day and most of the time I had to force myself to finish the meal. I made the meal plan above in a word document and had this with me at work and while away this weekend to stay on track and have for quick reference.

For breakfast I had chocolate shakeology and a fruit option. I switched up my fruit every morning and had banana, watermelon, and strawberries. I love the chocolate shakeology plain with ice and water blended. Adding your fruit into the shakeology is also an option and adds variety to the breakfasts!
Breakfast Day 1: Chocolate shakeology and 1/2 banana
There were 3 optional tea times one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. These are typically the times I have coffee or want to snack.  I drink coffee everyday and was worried I would have bad headaches, I never had a craving for coffee and the tea option definitely helped me with this and I now love tea! I used organic green tea and organic herbal passion tea throughout the 3 days.

Afternoon tea time: Unsweetened green tea
For the mid-morning snack it was the fiber sweep drink. I was most worried about this because of how it looked when I made it the first day. I was very surprised at how easy it was to drink and
the flavor was not bad at all! When doing the refresh don't let the sweep sit, drink it right away after mixing it with water.
Morning fiber sweep

For lunch everyday you got the vanilla refresh shake, 1 serving of fruit, 1 serving of vegetables, and 1 serving of healthy fats. I was thinking there is no way this is going to fill me up, I will be starving! Everyday for lunch I was full and did not want to eat more when I was finished. I added cinnamon, pure vanilla extract, water, ice and blended my refresh up. It tasted exactly vanilla shakeology to me and I loved it!!
Lunch day 2: Vanilla refresh, strawberries, cucumbers and 1/2 avocado
Lunch day 3: Vanilla refresh, watermelon. carrots and hummus
For the afternoon snack you get 1 vegetable serving and 1 healthy fats serving. I typically was not hungry yet for this but I wanted to follow the plan exactly so I ate it! Sometimes it was more than an hour after lunch due to work or not being hungry yet. For day 1 I had cucumber and hummus. Day 2 carrots and 1/2 avocado. Day 3 carrots and hummus.

Dinner was my favorite time of day during the refresh! I loved trying the new recipes provided in the refresh program guide. I will definitely be using these recipes again and trying some of the recipes I did not use yet from there. I always struggled to finish my meal because I was so full, this was a great feeling that I wasn't hungry and I didn't want to eat more after finishing. For dinner you get the vanilla refresh, 1 serving from the dinner recipes (provided in the guide), and optional organic vegetable broth.
Dinner day 1: Veggie stir fry recipe, vanilla refresh, and organic vegetable broth

Dinner day 2: Cucumber&tomato salad, vanilla refresh, organic vegetabl broth

Dinner day 3: spinach salad, vanilla refresh, organic vegetable broth
RESULTS!! I was gone for the weekend with family and there were temptations everywhere. I almost put off the 3 day refresh until Sunday but I knew I would eat and drink all weekend if I wasn't on this. I stay committed while away and I am so happy I did! In the 3 days I lost 3.5 pounds and 1.5 inches from my waist. I feel so much better and more energized. I now know I can do anything I put my mind too and things (food/drinks) I thought I needed everyday I do not need! You can tell the difference in my belly from the bloating I had from all the junk. Here are the before/after pictures!

All in all, I loved the refresh and would recommend it to everyone starting a new fitness journey, wanting to break bad habits, or you have plateaued and want to try something to kickstart your body again! I am going to do this again at the beginning of my next challenge group which kicks off July 6th! This will be a great time to join right after the holiday weekend. If you are interested email me for more information or you can check out my coach website!

Right now, would be the perfect time to get your refresh. This month the 21 day fix and fix extreme challenge packs are on sale. Snickerdoodle Shakeology

For a long time I was totally against even trying vanilla shakeology. Last month I bought the sampler pack just to try out all the other flavors so I could let others know how they taste. Well, I absolutely loved all the flavors! I am chocolate addict and I always said I would never order a bag of anything else. Well, when I got to my vanilla packet, which mind you I saved for last because I still thought I would hate it, I fell in love. I tried the snickerdoodle recipe...my, oh my! This shake is by far one of the best I have ever made!

Here is what you need:
  • 1 scoop or packet vanilla shakeology
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp all natural peanut butter or PB2
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8-10 ice cubes (for a thicker shake add more ice)
Place everything into your blender and watch the magic happen!

If you are interested in trying out shakeology but are not sure which flavor, the sampler pack is great to try them all out. Check out more about shakeology at this link

Guilt Free Coffee Creamer

If you are anything like me you love coffee! But really you love the flavored creamers more. I would add so much creamer to my coffee that it would be white. Was this healthy for me...NO but I loved it and needed it in the morning to get me going. I still have my coffee every morning and even mid-afternoon depending on how crazy my day is! I no longer add creamer full of additives and extra calories. I now use a clean alternative to coffee creamer and it does the job! No more guilt over enjoying my coffee and creamer!

Guilt Free Coffee Creamer Recipe:

-2 cups unsweetened almond milk

-4 tsp. vanilla extract

-2 tbsp. honey

-1 tsp. extract of your choice (my favorite is caramel)

👉mix ingredients together and store in the fridge!

Shelf life of this creamer in the fridge is around 2 weeks.

Hope you enjoy this clean alternative for your coffee!

How Challenge Groups Have Changed My Life

My fitness and health before starting challenge groups was difficult and not consistent. I was 4 months post baby and I lacked the motivation needed to get back into shape. Before I was pregnant, I was confident and felt comfortable in my own skin. That was completely different after having my son. I lacked confidence, when I looked in the mirror I did not recognize that person, and I constantly had negative thoughts about myself running through my head. I was going to the gym and eating "healthy" but was not getting results. Everything changed both physically and mentally for me when I joined my first challenge group.

I was hesitant to join an online group with women and men I had never met before. Honestly who isn't?!? We are scared because we fear judgement and we think we have nothing to share. Trust me these thoughts ran through my head a million times. I am the type of person who thinks I can do everything on my own and hate asking others for help. I would rather struggle and fail a million times before asking for help. BUT...I was at point where I knew I needed help. I was not holding myself accountable, made every excuse possible, and I was not making any progress.

My first challenge group saved my life...and no this is not an exaggeration! The group provided me with everything I was needing and much more. If you are anything like me you are competitive and when others are counting on you to show up you have to succeed. I had a coach and the other challengers in the group posting daily on their progress, completing their workout, eating a healthy meal, and motivating me to do the same. Negativity was not an option and I was constantly reminded daily that I was worth it to make the change! This type of thing drives me to push myself and failure was no longer option.

In the challenge group I was provided all the tools I needed to succeed. In the first week we spent time talking about measurements, meal planning, recipes, and what to expect with the program. Over the next 21 days I was motivated daily to stick with my meal plan, get my workout in, provided with food ideas, and supported by others when I had a bad day. I thought I had it all figured out till I joined this group. I learned portion control and clean eating. I learned this is a lifestyle change and 1 bad day does not define you or the progress you are making towards your goals. I learned I am WORTH it! I learned I am capable of anything I put my mind to. I learned setting goals is important and when you think it, you believe it and will become it! Challenge groups changed my life and I want to share with everyone this experience and maybe just maybe change a few lives along the way!

Fear is normal and if you have fear that is a good thing that means you are moving in the right direction towards change! Any change especially a change regarding your health and lifestyle is terrifying. Trust me on this one...it will be a change you will never regret. You are WORTH it and your health is not something to chance! I want to show you how to live a healthier life. I want to show you it is not rocket science, there is no magic pill or quick fix to live healthy. Let me show you how 30 minute workouts, portion control, shakeology, and change groups can change your life!

My next group is forming now Jiggle Free June and I want you in my group! I want to help you! MSG me for more information or to get started! To give you even more incentive to join me from now until June 30th for every 21 day fix or fix extreme package sold, beachbody will donate $10 to the International Justice Mission! Get healthy and help a great mission at the same time!
